THE HISTORY OF FILM IN UTAH

Since the 1920s Utah has been on the big screen, on television, and in magazines—over 600 films have been produced here, such as Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Planet of the Apes, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Dumb and Dumber, and Mission: Impossible 2, to name just a few.

From mountaintops delivering rugged scenery reminiscent of the Alps, to modern cities and lovely rural communities; from shimmering salt flats to red-rock vistas, Utah’s diversity continues to offer the filmmaker as well as the film lover opportunities to envision stories while gazing at some of the world’s greatest scenery.

THE POLITICS OF FILM IN UTAH

The State of Utah and Salt Lake City have a policy of encouraging local film production.

In early 2005, Utah lawmakers passed legislation to further encourage film and television production in the state. The state has recognized that there is a considerable amount of money brought to the community by film production, and has set aside revenue to support its growth.

This move by our local government has bolstered Cue Media’s efforts, allowing us to apply for their help in funding our projects. However, pre- and post-production phases (along with those significant portions of the film budgets) are still commonly completed outside the state.

CUE MEDIA PICTURES

The primary purpose of Cue Media Pictures is to establish a center for film production in Utah. Following our goals and plans for the future, Cue Media Pictures will have the option of completing our entire film projects inside the state. We also plan to make our facilities available for other filmmakers to rent when not otherwise in use, thus establishing a local base of operations for nationwide film production.
